Eddie Leighton has been playing the guitar since the early age of twelve years old. He started out learning country music songs off his mother’s collection of albums. Then the Ventures came out with "Wipe Out", "Walk don't run", and "Pipeline", and Eddie learned the songs exactly like the record. Nobody at that time seemed to be able to play these songs because they were to hard. So, Eddie started jamming with Jr. High School bubbies, and soon after put a band together and started playing at school dances. At the age of sixteen years old, Eddie audition for a band during the Summer school break, and was hired to play the bars. Everyone thought I was eighteen, and it was legal for eighteen year olds to drink in the bar at that time. So, he took the gig, and started making more money then his father made as a master mechanic for a heavy construction equipment company. That set the direction for the next thirty years, or so.  But, along the way, Eddie started writing his own music. It was not very common for a local musician to write and perform their own material at shows.  Eddie desired more then just playing in a band, and making money. In 1983 Eddie wrote a song called "Out on the road again", which was entered into the Miller High Life Rock to Riches contest. More then 30,000 entries nation wide entered the contest. Eddies song took first place, so, he won a record release on Atlantic Records, which was submitted to all the rock radio stations across the USA. The song had plenty of air play, but there were no records to be found in the stores. It was just a record release to the radio stations. Eddie decided to build his own recording studio, and produce his own material. He started working on  some of his old material, and rewriting it into commercial music. He would record all the instruments himself, and sing all of the back up, and lead vocals until it was the way he wanted it.  But, that got old pretty fast. So, he invited (Basses) Rick Vuk, (Drummer) Frank Mulvihill, (Keyboardist) John Fain, to work on the project. As time went by, they finally put together enough material for the first CD, called "Spell the blues". The genres of music are blues, and rock. The CD was actually put together to give away to our friends.   We decided to go out and perform and  see how it would go over. So, we started booking some gigs, but we didn't have a name for the band. Rick, suggested that we go out as “The Eddie Leighton Project”, because that was exactly what is was, a project. So, that was where the name of the band came from.

It has been over ten years since we started out. Eddie has two CD’s released, and enough material for two more CD’s right now. The second CD, was completed with a totally different group of musicians, and a completely different genres of music. The latest Cd is called “Beyond the Door”. The band was called “Leighton”. The band members are: Dino Johnson, (lead Vocalist), Joe Fava (Percussions), Rick Vuk(Bass), John Fain (Keyboards)and Eddie Leighton (Guitar). Eddie’s cousin Cindy L. Spear co-wrote five of the ten songs on the Cd . Cindy wrote the lyrics, and Eddie wrote all of the music.  This Cd was comprised of progressive rock music. The band went out and performed around the Detroit area for about two years. So, at the present moment Eddie is back in the studio finishing up some of his latest ideas. One of the latest songs is called “I’m broke up” which was made into a video. Garrett McGraw, shot the video, and Eddie added all of the special effects on the video. The video starts up on the home page when you come to this site. The song is dedicated to all of the unemployed people in the USA, who have lost their jobs to corporate greed, and low life politicians who don’t have any idea about the reality of the state of the country.

Look for another song to be added soon to this website called “Brick by brick”.  Again, these songs are completely different from the first two CD’s that Eddie has written.  Eddie likes to expand his writing skills by working with music out of his league. It doesn’t mean it is going to work, but it is a lot of fun to experiment with other genres of music. Keep checking back to see the latest projects that Eddie Leighton has been involved with. You will be hearing much more music from Eddie Leighton in the future.  You will find Eddie Leighton songs at www.broadjam.com/leighton  under songs.
